D. Cameron Black is a graduate of the University of Calgary (B.A., Class of 1982) and of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa (Class of 1986) where he graduated with a LL.B. cum laude. While in Ottawa, Cameron worked as a summer student and part-time during the school year in the Lease Administration Department of Campeau Corporation in Ottawa. It was at Campeau where Cameron first discovered his keen interest in commercial real estate law. After graduating from U of O, Cameron articled at the respected Calgary law firm of Code Hunter (now Gowlings LLP). Following his call to the Alberta Bar in 1987, Cameron practiced as an Associate at Code Hunter until becoming in-house counsel at TrizecHahn Office Properties.
Cameron served 12 years as the Senior Legal Counsel, Western Canada at TrizecHahn. After completing the disposition of TrizecHahn's Western Canada portfolio, Cameron was recruited by Brookfield Office Properties (now Brookfield Commercial) to join its management team as Vice President, Legal Counsel, Western. Cameron's notable successes while at TrizecHahn and Brookfield included providing and coordinating the legal work for the development, acquisition, disposition, financing and leasing of Western Canada's landmark commercial real estate developments including Bankers Hall and Bankers Court in Calgary, Canada Place in Edmonton, 360 Main in Winnipeg, Royal Centre in Vancouver and Brookfield Place Calgary. After nearly 15 years of service, Cameron retired from Brookfield and created his own boutique law firm, DC Black Law.
Cameron is highly respected in the field of commercial real estate law and considered by many in the commercial real estate industry as an expert in the field, particularly the drafting, negotiation and finalization of leases of all kinds. Cameron has participated in panels at Real Estate conferences, provided his expertise for precedent setting court cases and has been involved in countless large commercial real estate transactions in Canada. All tolled, Cameron has practiced nearly 30 years in the field of commercial real estate law.
Since beginning DC Black Law in 2015, Cameron has extended his practice and developed expertise in assisting physician groups across Alberta by providing legal advice, documentation, and assistance in creating community and hospital based practice agreements as well as practice agreements for those practicing in an ARP. He works in tandem with Practice Management Rx Consulting to provide a well rounded, tailored and integrated solution to physician's business needs.
Cameron splits his time between his home in Calgary and his second home in Belize. A fun loving family man, Cameron and his spouse are parents to two adult daughters and one dangerously cute fuzzy dog, Cooper. Devoted to his community, Cameron enjoys participating in volunteer events throughout the year as a member of the Cochrane Lions Club and as a volunteer for Calgary Bluesfest. Some of Cameron's other hobbies include hacking away (loudly and very poorly) on his electric guitar and growing his ever expanding wine collection.
